PM Modi reaches Kerala for aerial survey of the situation: Announces Rs 500 crore for help

Kerala; the God’s own country is witnessing floods crisis since two and a half months. The locals are affected badly and the state is in high alert right now. The death toll has touched 324 according to the official figures as the state continues to battle with heavy floods and landslides. People from Kerala need our help now more than ever. Our sources have reported that PM Modi reached Kerala in the morning and has announced a relief fund of Rs 500 crore for the state. The announcement has been made by the PM after attending a meeting with the Chief Minister and other officials of the state.

Kerala has postponed the exams of graduate students which were to be held till Aug 23. The government overlooking the flood situations in the state has rescheduled the holidays of the Onam festival from Aug 17 to Aug 29.

Overlooking the conditions in the state, the Kochi Airport will now be closed till Aug 26 which earlier was expected to open on Aug 16.

Chief Minister Vijayan tweeted:

“Kerala is facing its worst rain. 200 lives lost in the landslides and flood out of which 150 died in last two days and more than four lakh people have been shifted to the relief camp”.

Vijayan, CM of Kerala told sources, “I spoke to Defence Ministers and asked for more helicopters”. He also added, “In some places, water level is so much that only airlifting is the option” In an addition to his statement he said that 11 more helicopters will be sent in the worst condition places. Thousands of people are still living on trees and rooftops, and water has started coming to the relief camps also.

CM of Kerala tweeted this morning, “All districts apart Kasargod are under red alert. The Meteorological Department warns that heavy rains are affecting 13 districts in Kerala”.

Rahul Gandhi also spoke to PM Modi and requested him to increase the Army and Navy’s presence in Kerala. Rahul Gandhi on twitter requested people to donate for the flood victims on chief minister relief fund.
