Netflix is going to release “Penalty” on 5th July. The 2019 sports drama is about Lukram Smail, a footballer from Manipur. He has a dream to become an international player, but his dreams are seemingly shattered as he faces continuous racial discrimination from fellow team members. Shubham Singh directed the movie.
“Penalty” is the story of a North-East Indian football player who fights 24×7 with the society in order to achieve his dreams, covers all kinds of layers from negative backlashes, social pressures to a complete change over in one’s life.
The film came out in 2019 and had received mixed reviews. It got a score of 7.6 out of 10 on IMDb Penalty features Kay Kay Menon, Shashank Arora, Lukram Smail, and Manjot Singh. In Penalty, Kay Kay Menon plays the role of a football team manager who finds outsiders such as Lukram unfit for the team due to his racist mindset.
Penalty shows the double standards followed in our country. On the one hand, we praise sportspersons such as Mary Kom, Sunil Chhetri, and Baichung Bhutia for their dedication and hard work. On the other hand, people from northeast India face racial discrimination within their country.
