Within 12 days, the Indian Airforce retaliated to avenge the death of more than 40 Indian soldiers who were martyred in the horrific Pulwama terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir. In the early hours of 26 Feb, 12 Indian Airforce Mirage 2000 fighter jets crossed Line of Control, entered the air of Pakistan and dropped 1,000 kg laser-guided bombs on Pak terror camps. It is the first time after the 1971 war that IAF crossed LoC.

  6. In 2011, India signed a 2.4 billion USD deal with France to upgrade the existing Mirage 2000 jets. The jets were upgraded to Mirage 2000-5 MK and delivered to India in 2018.
  7. IAF calls Mirage 2000 ‘Vajra’ which means thunderbolt in Sanskrit.

Foreign Secretary Vijay Gokhale told the media that IAF destroyed the biggest JeM terror camp in Balakot, run by Masood Azhar’s brother-in-law. It is also reported that over 300 terrorists have been killed during the 21-minute long operation. However, Pakistan Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi has denied any destruction or casualties. He also claimed that there were no JeM camps in the affected areas.
